Honorary Citizen 2017

On the 15th November Laurence Whiteley MBE was presented with Honorary Citizen 2017.  Laurence sadly experienced a very traumatic period of his life with Leukemia at a young age and following several surgical procedures he unfortunately lost his leg to the illness.  Laurence didn't let this stop his ambition and once he was fit again he persevered with the training to get him to Paralympic level.  After his hard work he went on to win gold medal in rowing.  Laurence was born and bred in Northallerton and is a regular advocate of the town's fundraising events, new openings and supporter of all things Northallerton.  Laurence accepted this accolade amongst family, friends, colleagues, coaches and Councillors.  His name is now on the Honorary Citizen board in the Upper Hall.
