Santa Sunday

Councillor Ken Archer, Chairman of the Santa Sunday Working Group wishes to thank all those who took part in yet another very successful event on Sunday 4th December.

The day started with Churches Together holding a small service and then the Elf Run made its first appearance.  The run was started by our very own Paralympian, Laurence Whiteley, resplendant with Gold Medal.  The event was very generously supported by Vasstech.  The runners overtook the High Street, where the race started and ended.    The older groups aged Under 14s and Under 11s began proceedings and were cheered on by their parents and supporters.  Then it was time for the younger runners aged Under 7’s who made a valiant effort.  What a tremendous event, organised by Allerton Junior Athletic Club.  All entries were rewarded by bags of sweets from Lewis and Cooper

Following on from the Elf Run there were various performers on the Stage, puppets, Encore School of Dance and the Rock Choir.  Northallerton Silver Band played their hearts out in the Town Hall to the enjoyment of all.

Santa arrived (via Barkers double decker bus and accompanied by some very lucky children), along with a torch lit procession and the crowds were amazed at the fireworks which accompanied his grand entrance.  He then took up residence in the Town Hall for children to tell him what they wished for.

Laurence then acknowledged the crowd and his presence was appreciated by all as he turned the lights on around the Town Hall and on the Christmas Tree.

A huge thank you also to all the volunteers who in any way either leading up to or actually on the day, made the event such a success.
