HORTICULTURE AND LANDSCAPE APPRENTICESHIP

**This apprenticeship will be delivered by Askham Bryan College York, where you will be required to attend an interview**

 

Working week:

37 hours Monday to Friday

 

Typical duties include:

All aspects of garden maintenance

Clearing and tending to the open spaces

Upkeep of paths

Plant recognition

Maintenance of grass, hedges, shrubs and plants

Full instruction and guidance will be offered to the apprentice to aid their knowledge, confidence and expertise.

 

The successful apprentice will be responsible for:

The horticulture maintenance and upkeep of the beds on site with options to add their own input ideas.

Assisting in a variety of other jobs in the open spaces, and areas maintained by the council, including manual mowing, strimming, hedge cutting.

Ensure that the work is carried out to a high standard, in accordance to the council’s expectations and must be committed to the community for the benefits of the residents and visitors.

The apprentice must be confident and ready to answer questions from the general public.

Some horticulture experience (demonstrated through a part-time opportunity, voluntary work or by tending to gardens, allotment or land) would be advantageous.  This is not completely necessary if an interest and determination is clearly demonstrated.

Some horticulture experience would be advantageous

A strong willingness to learn about horticulture and land

Good communication skills essential

Full driving licence (preferred)

Desired qualifications:

A strong willingness to learn about horticulture

A minimum of 2 GCSE’s in English and Maths at Level 3 or above
