Northallerton Town Council is funded through different streams of income. The majority of this comes from a small proportion of the Council Tax paid to North Yorkshire Council, annually by every household in Northallerton, which is called the Precept.
We generate income from the hire of the Town Hall and letting of Town Hall shop units, contracts we undertake for other organisations and, in addition, sponsorship for some of our planted areas.
The council spends money on maintenance and development of the parks, greens, recreational areas, allotments, Northallerton Town Hall and, importantly, the provision of public toilets.
Budgets are reviewed throughout the year and, each October, the Finance Committee considers the budget and precept required for the following year and makes a recommendation to Full Council for their consideration. When we have significant projects to undertake, we apply for and receive grants from external sources.
Key priorities for the council are outlined in the strategic plan which you can view here:
Our Annual Reports detail projects completed to date and all income and expenditure in relation to the operation of the Town Council is listed here.
