The Town Council was recently made aware of some local confusion regarding the formal status of the Public Right of Way between the Castlegate Estate and Oddfellows Arms, particularly whether or not cyclists are allowed to use the route.
Both the County Council and the District Council have now been contacted to provide further clarification and they have confirmed that there are no formal restrictions on the use of the path by cyclists.
It should be noted that some advisory signs were installed in 2020 on the approach to the narrow bridge over the beck, in the interests of pedestrian safety. The Town Council has requested these are changed and it is suggested that cyclists may wish to dismount at this narrow point in the interests of safety.
Based on the advice provided, it is therefore acceptable for cyclists to use this direct path between the town centre and the Castlegate estate.
