Vibrant Northallerton: £85,000 grant to deliver four new town centre events

Northallerton Town Council and Northallerton Business Improvement District (BID) have been awarded £85,000 from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund to deliver four brand new events in the town between now and summer 2027.

The funding will support Vibrant Northallerton, a new events programme developed in partnership by the BID and Town Council, building on Northallerton’s already successful events calendar while increasing footfall, dwell time and economic activity in the town centre.

The grant, provided by the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire through the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, will enable the delivery and enhancement of four major events on Northallerton High Street:

  • Summer Beach Weekend
  • Winter Food Market
  • Ice & Fire Trail
  • Green & Active Living Festival

Together, the events are expected to attract up to 10,000 visitors per event, increase dwell time by at least 10%, and grow the overall number of events in the town centre by 25% by summer 2027. The programme will focus on high‑quality event delivery, improved infrastructure, enhanced activities and wider promotion to support local businesses and create a vibrant, welcoming town centre throughout the year.

A spokesperson for Northallerton BID said:

“Vibrant Northallerton is about showcasing everything that makes our town special while giving businesses a real boost. This funding allows us to deliver bigger, better events that will bring more people into the town centre, encourage them to spend longer here and support our independent and national businesses alike.”

Cllr Hugill, Mayor of Northallerton continued:

“These new events will add energy and variety to the life of the town and provide more opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy Northallerton. It is encouraging to see strong partnership working delivering investment that will benefit the whole community.”

David Skaith, Mayor of York & North Yorkshire added:

"Our high streets are where our communities come together. That’s why I’m backing creative ideas from the people who know their area best with my High Streets Fund.

“By supporting Vibrant Northallerton, we are helping to bring together four key new events, each designed to increase footfall, support local businesses and enhance the vibrancy of the high street.

“This is one of 65 projects we’ve supported across York and North Yorkshire helping to transform our high streets into vibrant destinations that residents and visitors will want to return to again and again.”

Further details of individual events and dates will be announced in due course.
